Tara Deetscreek

Where did you grow up?
I was born in  London, England.  I grew up in England until I was 10.  Then I moved to the States and lived in Florida, Virginia, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

Where is home now?
I currently live in Akron, Ohio.

Who do you live with?
I live with my husband, Brad, and my four sons, Finn, Sully, Killian, and Sawyer, and my two FEMALE Persian cats. :)

What does your work space sound like?
My work space sounds like an eclectic mix of tunes from Madeleine Peyroux to The Cranberries to Coldplay. Of course these tunes are intermixed with sounds of children knocking on my studio door and birds chirping on the tree where they live right outside of my studio window.

Who is your favorite artist?
It's hard to pick a favorite artist, but one of my top favorites is Bo Bartlett.

What inspires you?
Cities, all things vintage, nature, textiles, people's stories, and other randomness.

What is your favorite piece you have created for Bel Kai?
My favorite piece is the boot design.  I really love the colors in this design and it is a silhouette of my favorite shoe that I wear almost every day of my life, so I can't help but love it. To me, a shoe is a symbol of journeys and adventures, which makes me happy to think about.

If you weren’t creating art, what would your dream profession be?
I feel like I am in my dream profession.  I never dreamed of doing anything other than being a mother and artist.  If I had to do something other than what I am doing right now though, I would be a professional traveler :)

What is your favorite snack?
My favorite snack is Cadbury's chocolate.  I also love sushi, BBQ chicken pizza, chocolate milkshakes, and Chinese bakery buns.

How would your best friend describe you?
"Tara is passionate about beauty - finding it in people, creating it in art. She is detail oriented and meticulous but doesn't lose sight of the whole. She's sensitive, fashionable, and loves stories, but not the nightly news. Longs to travel. Doesn't care a whip about politics. Loves God."
